Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Cypress's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Cypress have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Cypress are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Cypress who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

Ages 8-18

The Performance Program at School of Rock Cypress is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Cypress Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Cypress music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Cypress's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Cypress music venue.

Rookies music program for children in Cypress
Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Cypress, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Cypress, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

At School of Rock Cypress our Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

The Path to Take the Stage

The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey. At School of Rock Cypress, toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music should start with Little Wing. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Cypress, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Cypress is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Cypress who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

At School of Rock Cypress, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock’s online music lesson program is no exception. Online guitar lessons, online piano lessons, online drum lessons, online singing lessons and online bass guitar lessons are all offered through the School of Rock Remote online program.

Ages 18+

School of Rock Cypress's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Cypress is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Cypress.

The School of Rock Cypress Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Cypress.

The School of Rock Cypress House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Cypress's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at TX rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Cypress and the rest of TX. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Cypress. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Cypress, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. Owner, General Manager
Alejandra is a crazy mom, ex-model, daughter of a former rock star, and BD in engineering who makes arts, music, and structure melt into a nice and balanced General Manager. She is sensitive enough to understand the artists and organized enough to keep it under control.

Alejandra is currently studying for an associate's degree in Music at Lone Star College.
Music Director Caleb Vich
Caleb Vich
Music Director
Caleb Vich is the Music Director at the School of Rock in Cypress, TX, and holds a bachelor's degree in Music Composition from Stephen F. Austin State University. His musical journey includes classical and metal guitar lessons, and six years of participation in marching band, concert band, and orchestra, during which he composed pieces for various ensembles, some of which were professionally played and recorded.

Caleb has a rich performance history, ranging from school stages to the St. Patrick's Day parade in Ireland. He has collaborated with jazz bands, steelpan bands, and his own band. Notable influences include guitarists Tosin Abasi, Steve Vai, Synester Gates, Periphery, and Mark Tremonti, as well as bassists Les Claypool and Victor Wooten. For over nine years, Caleb engaged in diverse musical pursuits, including marching band, jazz band, and various college bands. His orchestral experiences extend to performing at the Midwest Clinic in high school and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) in college.

Assistant General Manager
Josh Vasquez is the Assistant General Manager at the School of Rock in Cypress, TX, and attributes much of his musical journey to his father, who played a significant role in inspiring, supporting, and introducing him to various music genres, particularly emphasizing percussion instruments.

Josh grew up surrounded by classic rock, Latin jazz, salsa, and blues and received his first drum set at the age of 10. He explored other instruments like the alto saxophone during his school years. While largely self-taught, Josh's passion for learning and enhancing his skills extends to various instruments. He was part of bands in middle and high school, playing a Carlos Santana-inspired fusion of rock, blues, and Latin percussion/jazz.

Currently, Josh plays drums every Sunday at his church and has been a part of the School of Rock Cypress instructor band for several years. His musical influences include notable drummers like Peter Criss, Mitch Mitchell, and Mike Portnoy. Beyond music, Josh is a proud Eagle Scout with a diverse athletic background, enjoying activities such as football, soccer, and water polo. He also has a love for cars, motorcycles, outdoor activities like camping and hiking, and has participated in marching band and concert band.

Will O’Bryant possesses a degree in Music/Fine Arts, and is a perpetual learner with a penchant for the unconventional. Having graced countless stages nationwide, particularly in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Tennessee, he has accumulated a wealth of experience through his involvement in numerous bands and performances, as well as his time spent with the marching drum corps.

Will's musical influences are diverse and eccentric, evident in the eclectic decor of his lesson room. Drawing inspiration from both renowned artists and close friends, his musical palette embraces the weird and groovy.

Adrian Vasquez embarked on his musical journey by dedicating 15 years to the French horn, with three of those years spent as a professional player. His interest in piano began as a hobby in high school but flourished when he delved into music theory. Drumming, on the other hand, was acquired by observing his brother and immersing himself in a household filled with various musicians.

Adrian primarily honed his musical skills through self-teaching and experiences in middle and high school. During three years of professional French horn playing, he engaged in Drum Corp International, enduring challenging 12-hour rehearsals for a more intricate and demanding marching band experience. Adrian actively participated in 30-50 shows, emphasizing the importance of hard work over innate talent.

Adrian recently delved into progressive metal and is influenced by musicians like Jacob Collier, Stevie Wonder, and Snarky Puppy for keyboards, and Michael Salvatori, Joe Hisaishi, Hiroyuki Sawano, and Shiro Sagisu for writing. Adrian's involvement in outdoor school band activities complemented his siblings' collective achievement of becoming Eagle Scouts, instilling values of accountability, responsibility, and communication from a young age.

Samantha Pisarski-May boasts a rich 15-year tenure in elementary music education and is a seasoned professional with a primary focus on vocals and early childhood music instruction. She is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and holds expertise in music education and operatic voice.

Samantha exhibits a versatile musical prowess, skillfully playing instruments ranging from beginner piano and ukulele to all Orff instruments and the recorder. Presently delving into the realm of guitar and bass, she showcases a commitment to ongoing musical exploration. Samantha's eclectic journey includes performances in cover bands and a metal band, notably influenced by diverse genres. Her musical preferences span from metal bands featuring female vocalists like Lacuna Coil to music theater, show tunes, and the raw sounds of '90s grunge and alternative rock.

Cameron Michalak embarked on his musical journey in the fourth grade when he began learning the cello. His passion for music expanded under the guidance of his orchestra director, who offered additional instruction in guitar after school. Cameron later added bass and drums to his repertoire during his freshman year of high school.

Cameron's theatrical involvement spans over two years in community theater, where he secured lead roles in productions such as Horton the Elephant in Seussical, Warner Huntington III in Legally Blonde, and Peter in The Diary of Anne Frank. With over 100 stage appearances, Cameron has stood in for local indie artists. Influenced by musicians like Rob Scallon, Misha Mansoor, Mark Holcomb, Adam "Nolly" Getgood, and Adam Neely, he has cultivated a diverse musical style that reflects his background in orchestra, choir, and community theatre.

Christopher Jung embarked on his musical journey in seventh grade by initially taking guitar lessons before transitioning to being self-taught. His musical prowess expanded in college, where he learned to play bass, drums, and keyboard while also delving into music theory through classes.

Chris gained performance experience by playing at frat parties and open mics, but his entry into the industry came with his role at School of Rock Cypress, where he has participated in six shows. Influenced by a diverse range of artists including Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Ted Nugent, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Emerson Lake Palmer, Rush, Pink Floyd, Dave Brubeck, Gustav Holt, and John Williams, Chris's musical journey reflects a rich and varied tapestry of influences.

Michelle Haces is a seasoned musician and educator with over 13 years of music experience. She began her musical journey at Yamaha Music School, later joining the School of Rock program, where she studied under a Berklee graduate and attended the University of Houston's Moorse School of Music.

With over a decade of performing experience, Michelle started teaching piano independently before joining School Of Rock Cypress. She has been actively involved in gigging bands and has a particular fondness for Avenged Sevenfold due to their unique blend of elaborate classical theory and metal music, which she believes defines their signature sound.

Michelle is a songwriter and has a passion for English literature and enjoys writing poetry and fiction. In addition to her musical pursuits, she finds pleasure in drawing and crocheting.

Juan Garcia immersed himself in a diverse musical education and is a graduate of Lonestar College with an Associate of Arts degree in Music. His studies included jazz, where he delved into intricate chord progressions suitable for the genre, and classical guitar. Juan also embraced piano classes, mastering the fundamentals of various instruments. Performing at college events and with his band, he showcased his skills in jazz band annual events and student recitals. However, his most significant growth came from playing with his band, where he learned the ins and outs of booking shows and stage management.

Juan's musical influences span a variety of bands, including Hail the Sun, Dance Gavin Dance, Chon, Polyphia, American Football, The Mars Volta, Ling Tosite Sigure, Tricot, and more. His admiration extends to guitarists like Tim Henson, Yvette Young, TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, and Will Swan. Beyond music, Juan was part of an anime club in high school but now spends his time primarily writing music and studying, highlighting his dedication to continuous improvement as a musician.

Rebecca Richards is a college student majoring in Music Education and boasts an impressive eight-year history in school choir. While pursuing her degree, she has taken up self-guided piano lessons and is thoroughly enjoying the experience. Her introduction to the professional music scene came through her role as a music educator at School of Rock Cypress.

Rebecca draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres but holds a special affinity for pop and alternative/indie, with Taylor Swift and Tame Impala standing out as her current major influences.

Chris Burgess holds a degree in Audio Engineering and is a self-taught musician with proficiency in guitar, bass, and drums. He graduated Valedictorian from MediaTech Institute Houston.

Chris has showcased his talents as a skilled guitar player and guitar tech in numerous shows, collaborating with renowned acts like Lorna Shore, Ice Nine Kills, Every Time I Die, Veil of Maya, and 68. Drawing inspiration from legends such as Dimebag Darrell, Eddie Van Halen, and Gary Holt, Chris has firmly established himself as a versatile figure in the music industry. Additionally, he demonstrates his musical prowess by playing guitar for the band I AM.
