Kira Allen
Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher
Kira has been playing bass and guitar since she was thirteen and has been a part of SOR Farmington family since 2016. Throughout the years of her musical development, she explored many avenues of music and pursued many opportunities to enrich her musical skills. She also plays guitar and upright bass. She picked up the upright bass in high school, and the instrument led to her becoming more diverse in musical genres. Over the years, she was a part of six of her high school ensembles, Detroit’s Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles Jazz Band, Blue Lake International’s 2019 Youth Symphony Orchestra, School of Rock Farmington’s Performance Program, and the School of Rock Farmington House Band. She knows the musical language between classical through metal. She is currently pursuing a Jazz Studies Degree over at Wayne State University. She is really eager to teach bass and guitar at School of Rock!
Katelynn Corll
Drum Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Katelynn Corll is a touring musician and songwriter. She is a former School of Rock student before working as a full-time musician and started her first band when she was as young as 10.
Katelynn has been a teacher at the School of Rock in Farmington, Michigan for many years, offering lessons in drums, vocals, bass, guitar, and keys. She has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Late Late Show with James Corden. Katelynn is a road dog at heart, but is excited to be back teaching at the school!
Tyler Evans
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher
Tyler is a sound recording engineer from the metro Detroit area. He has been in love with music since he was 7 years old when he first learned guitar. Since then, Tyler specializes in guitar, bass, and drums, while also working on vocals and beginner piano. Tyler has worked as a producer and writer since the age of 12 and learned music theory along the way by becoming a student at School of Rock Canton in 2020. During his time at School of Rock, being an older student, he naturally gravitated toward helping the younger students. Since becoming an instructor, Tyler has fallen in love with teaching and jumps at any chance to inspire the next generation.
Andrew Rice
Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Drum Teacher
Andrew is a piano and drum teacher at the School of Rock in Farmington, Michigan. With over a decade of piano experience and percussion training, his goal is to help others enjoy music as much as he does.
During his musical career, Andrew has performed at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival (2017) and the Michigan Music Conference (2019). He enjoys playing music with friends and has helped produce many other artists' music around the metro Detroit area.
Ben Rice
Music Director
Ben has been playing drums for over 17 years and teaching for over six years. He has been a part of Rock bands, Jazz ensembles, drum lines, and concert bands throughout his entire musical career.
Ben's favorite bands include The 1975, Incognitio, TOOL, and Nevell. His favorite non-music-related activities are watching standup comedy, playing video games, and drawing.
Joey Serra
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Joey Serra has been playing guitar for over a decade and has played in many bands and with many artists around the Detroit area. He is a multi-instrumentalist who has played many things in different groups including guitar, singing, playing bass and even drumming in certain groups.
Joey graduated from MSU Denver with a Bachelor of Arts in Music (specifically Jazz Guitar). He enjoys many music genres including psychedelic rock, hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and even metal.
DeMarcus Sumter
Drum Teacher, Vocal Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
DeMarcus Sumpter comes to the School of Rock in Farmington, Michigan after traveling the world as a drummer and musician for various styles of music. He has worked as a studio musician across the United States and has been teaching drums and vocals for over 20 years.
When DeMarcus is not teaching, he is performing with multiple bands, including his own, all over Michigan and at festivals on the East Coast.
Nate Walker
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Nate has been part of the School of Rock community since 2017 and has loved every minute of it. He has been in more than a dozen season shows and has interned as a teacher helping out with the Rock 101 and Rookies programs and summer camps.
Nate was part of the School of Rock Farmington's House Band in 2018 and made long-lasting friendships that last to this day. He made it to the third round “live audition“ of the School of Rock AllStars program before the COVID-19 disruption in 2020.
Nate mainly teaches and plays guitar but he can teach bass and keys as well. He works with kids of all ages and loves seeing them progress. Music is his passion and Nate loves sharing it with his students.
Logan Widmer
Drum Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Logan has been playing drums for over a decade and the guitar for over five years. His favorite artists include Ty Segall, Crumb, Opeth, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. Logan is also a woodworker and a luthier and likes skydiving.
Grace Facione
Studio Coordinator
Grace is our school’s Studio Coordinator. She is 20 years old and has joined our team in October 2022. She loves music, singing, and plays a little bit of guitar, piano, and ukulele. She has always loved music of all genres, especially rock and roll music from the 70s and 80s. She has many favorite artists including Def Leppard, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Bon Jovi and Greta Van Fleet. She is currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design at Wayne State University and does photography and design work for local bands in the metro-Detroit area.
Caitlyn Brey
General Manager
Caitlyn is our General Manager, and has been working with the School of Rock since she graduated from SOR Rochester in 2018. Since starting at SOR Farmington in 2021, she has started 2 bands that actively play around the Metro Detroit Music Scene. She plays Guitar, Bass, Sings, and recently took up Drums as well. She has played many genres of music, but her favorite is Punk or Alternative music
Chris Marek
Owner
Chris Marek is a former principal for both Plymouth-Canton and Wayne-Westland schools, but always dreamed of being in the music business. After more than 26 years in education, Chris retired and built School of Rock Canton in 2019 and bought School of Rock Farmington in 2021. A guitar player from Muskegon, MI, he has played since age 11. Chris quit guitar lessons early on after being forced to sight read "Hot Crossed Buns" when he wanted to play Led Zeppelin songs. He loves the School of Rock Song First approach, where students play songs they love and learn reading and theory along the way. Chris is the owner of School of Rock Canton and Farmington.
