School of Rock's keyboard lessons are vastly different from traditional one-on-one beginner piano lessons that most students end up dreading. At School of Rock, our keyboard teachers get students to love the keyboard (and piano) by teaching them to play popular rock songs while implementing basic concepts and skills like finger placement, scales, pedaling, key differentiation and rhythm. We start with private keyboard lessons paired with band rehearsals to prepare our piano students to play a live gig with a full band. The patented School of Rock Method builds musical proficiency through our proprietary Method App, Method Book collection, SongFirst approach, and performance-based music curriculum. All of our lessons programs include a performance aspect.
As our students begin progressing through School of Rock's beginner keyboard and piano lessons, we identify their progress and, when it's time, move them up to amplified and more challenging intermediate to advanced keyboard techniques. This is where students will develop their skills even further and immerse themselves deeper into learning the ins-and-outs of the piano and keyboard through private lessons, group rehearsals and live performances on stage.
At School of Rock, the health and safety of our students is our top priority. We’re offering online music lessons in addition to in-person socially-distanced classes. Students choosing to take keyboard and piano lessons online are taught using the same famous, patented curriculum we use in our schools—The School of Rock Method™. This approach couples in-person or online keyboard and piano lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

While the keyboard is one of the most accessible instruments for young students, four years old might be a little young for formal keyboard lessons. At School of Rock, your 4-year-old can participate in the Little Wing music program to learn fundamental concepts using fun, dynamic musical activities that often feature keyboards.
Little WingSchool of Rock does let kids borrow keyboards for lessons and rehearsal, but for best results students are encouraged to have a piano or keyboard at home for daily practice. As students reach higher skill levels on the piano or keyboard, our keyboard teachers recommend that students purchase their own instruments to use at home for daily practice.
With steady practice, playing in a group, and weekly private keyboard lessons, kids and adults can play with basic proficiency in as little as 6 months. Some students can reach the more advanced skill levels in as few as 3-5 years, but it does vary depending on age and the level of practice at home.
Keyboard and piano lessons don't stop once your child leaves the School of Rock classroom. To see the best results, our piano and keyboard teachers recommend students spend at least 30 minutes a day practicing what they learned in class.
At School of Rock, we teach private keyboard lessons in-person or online in conjunction with weekly band rehearsals meant to build confidence and teamwork. While we do offer private keyboard instruction, we strongly encourage students to play in band rehearsals as a way of exploring group dynamics as they become more proficient on the keyboard.
At School of Rock, our piano instructors encourage students to regularly practice, ask questions, and use reliable equipment. We also teach students key skills like chords, scales, rhythm, and how using a keyboard versus a piano can affect playing.
